Antonelli College was founded in 1947 in downtown Cincinnati, Ohio as the Gebhardt Art School. It was renamed the Ohio Visual Art Institute in the mid-1970s before acquiring its present name in 1982.
Since its foundation, the institution has emphasized instruction in the visual arts but during the 1990s, programs were added in the field of business office technology. Later in 1996, two satellite branches were added in Jackson and Hattiesburg, Mississippi; and the school's curriculum was improved with courses in medical disciplines.
Today Antonelli College strives to create an environment that prepares its graduates for careers as qualified professionals in their chosen fields.
The Antonelli College teaching mechanism involves mix of both direct involvement and critical thinking. Direct involvement means hands-on training and real-world education. Students become competent in the use of the many tools and techniques of their chosen careers. Critical thinking includes inquiring, analyzing and understanding ideas and processes in depth. Due to this students become competent in applying what they have learned in school to all types of situations that they may encounter after graduation.
Students can get benefit from relatively small class sizes (no higher than 30 and much smaller for laboratory and clinical instruction). Student population is approximately 700 undergrads at the main campus in Cincinnati, with less than half that many at each of the satellite campuses in Mississippi.
Areas of StudyPrograms of study at Antonelli College include art, business and IT, and medical. Completion of an Associate Degree Program will typically require about 70 or 80 weeks of class.
