Established in 1978 as one of the seven colleges of the Dallas County Community College District, Brookhaven College has since served the community in the northern part of Dallas County.
AcademicsBrookhaven College is a two-year community college. It offers a full range of courses, which provide first two years of Bachelor degree studies. The College awards the Associate in Arts and Associate in Science degrees. Moreover, there are the Associate in Applied Science degrees and Certificates available in technical/occupational areas. The latter include, but are not limited to, automotive technology, accounting, business administration, child development, computer information technology, e-commerce, emergency medical services, management, marketing, office technology, paramedicine, radiologic technology, nursing and visual communications. The College offers unique customized training programs available for businesses on the college campus or at the job site.
Brookhaven offers special education programs, which are:
• Continuing education programs for oil and gas professionals offered by the Ellison Miles Geotechnology Institute
• Brookhaven College Alternative Teacher Certification Program designed for professionals with a bachelor’s degree who enter middle and high school classrooms after an intensive semester of noncredit study
• Brookhaven’s Senior Adult Education Program offering courses in computer training, art, literature, travel courses and genealogy courses
• Evening, weekend and flexible classes to provide a convenient time for most schedules
• Distance education courses taught via television, videotapes and the Internet
Brookhaven College is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award the associate degree. Brookhaven College is recognized and sanctioned by the Coordinating Board of the Texas Higher Education Agency.
Financial AidBrookhaven College assists students by awarding financial aid for post-secondary education. Financial aid is awarded as grants, scholarships, loans and student employment from various federal, state, institutional and private sources. Financial aid is available to students with financial need and also to those without need
