To receive student financial aid, there are various eligibility requirements that must be met. These are: 1) register with the Selective Service, if required
2) maintain satisfactory academic progress
3) be enrolled or accepted for enrollment as a regular student
4) have a valid Social Security Number
5) sign the statements of educational purpose and non-default on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
6) have financial need
7) have a High School Diploma, General Education Development Certificate, or equivalent
8) be a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen
9) not be in default on a federal student loan or owe an overpayment on a federal student grant
A lot of student financial aid funds are awarded based on a financial need. The exceptions to this include unsubsidized Stafford and all PLUS Loans.All students are classified as dependent or independent because federal student aid programs are based on the idea that students, and their families, if applicable, have the primary responsibility for paying for their post-secondary education.
