Founded as the Hawai‘i Vocational School in 1941 and organized under its present name in 1970, UH Hilo has grown and changed throughout the years to meet the educational needs and aspirations of the society. The University of Hawaii at Hilo (UH Hilo) is a members of the University of Hawaii system anchored by the University of Hawaii at Manoa in Honolulu, Hawaii.

Distance Learning Distance learning program provides students across the Big Island and the state of Hawaii with the opportunity to take classes offered by the university. Distance learning online classes can be delivered anywhere and anytime. It includes e-Learning courses and programs offered through the UH system. University’s Distance Learning Coordinator provides referrals to statewide e-Learning as a member of the UH system.
