At first in 1926 Texas Southmost College was well-known as The Junior College of the Lower Rio Grande Valley. Later in 1973, Texas Southmost College formed a partnership with the University of Texas-Pan American. And as a result institution was named as Pan American University at Brownsville.In 1989 it was joined the University of Texas System. And finally 1991 the University of Texas Pan-American at Brownsville was renamed to The University of Texas at Brownsville.
The MissionThe mission of The University of Texas at Brownsville and Texas Southmost College (UTB/TSC). The partnership combines the strengths of the community college and those of an upper-level university by increasing student access and eliminating inter-institutional barriers while fulfilling the distinctive responsibilities of each type of establishment. Through this unique partnership between UTB and TSC, students receive the hometown flavor a community college, while at the same time the rigors of a four-year institution.
The University of Texas at Brownsville and Texas Southmost College Partnership offers Certificates, and Associate, Baccalaureate, and Graduate degrees in liberal arts, the sciences, and professional programs designed to meet student demand.
UTB/TSC advances social and economic development, enhances the quality of life, fosters respect for the environment, provides for personal enrichment, and expands knowledge through programs of research, service, training continuing and education.
