Arizona State University, at Tempe is a coeducational institution opened 1885 as a normal school. In 1925 it became Tempe State Teachers College and was renamed into Arizona State College at Tempe 1945. Its current name was adopted in 1958.

As a rule, for prospective students, the priority date for applications is March 1. Admissions decisions are depends on three main criteria: graduation, competency, and aptitude. Incoming freshmen must be high school graduates, or demonstrate acceptable equivalency exam scores. Candidates must also display competency, which is shown through acceptable high school grades in most core subjects. And one more point, prospective students must demonstrate aptitude demonstrated through a combination of high school grades, class rank, or ACT/SAT scores.
