Located in Fayetteville, North Carolina and founded in 1867 as the Howard School for the education of African Americans, Fayetteville State University is a public comprehensive regional university that enrolls over 6,000 students. The main goal of the University is to provide quality education to its students through a basic liberal-arts foundation, specialized professional training and specific degree programs.

This public comprehensive regional university offers degrees at the baccalaureate, master’s, and doctoral levels. It is committed to excellence in teaching, research, and service to the community. Students and graduates are prepared to lead meaningful and productive lives.

Admissions
All first-year students are defined as applicants who have not taken any college-level coursework after completing high school. Fayetteville seeks to admit students whose academic preparation is strong, who desire to succeed, and who are highly motivated academically, professionally, and personally.

Financial Aid
There are four main types of financial aid which include:

    * Grants, such as the Federal Pell Grant, Federal SEOG, ACG, SMART, UNC Need Based Grant and NC Student Incentive Grant Grants are free assistance that does not need to be repaid.
    * Education Lottery Scholarship
    * Federal Work-Study provides and opportunity to work and earn money for school. Students work no more than 15 hours per week. It is paid every month.
    * Scholarships are available through the university’s departments and financial aid office
    * Loans, such as the Federal Stafford Loan and Perkins, are low interest and need to be paid back after you complete school or cease to be enrolled half time (6 credit hours).
