JCC, founded in 1950 as a predominantly transfer, liberal arts oriented institution, was among the first community colleges within the State University of New York. JCC is characterized by a climate of informal interaction between faculty and students and provides a learning environment which encourages growth and change while maintaining high academic standards. The threefold purpose of the college is to serve those students desiring transfer programs, provide technical and career programs for those who wish to seek employment immediately after graduation, and offer the community the opportunity to pursue part-time study for improvement of job skills and cultural enrichment.

Admission
The minimum requirements for admission are graduation from an approved secondary school, or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and acceptable scores on the American College Testing Assessment Tests. The American College Test (ACT) and the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) are not required for admission. There is no application deadline although students are encouraged to have their application process complete one week before classes begin.
The admissions office uses a rolling admission decision process whereby decision letters are sent to applicants after their file folders are complete.

Online learning is a rewarding and challenging way to reach your educational goals. The College offers three certificate programs and six online programs. In addition, JCC also offers a variety of online courses available to anyone who meets the course requirements. Students have the opportunity to advance their career with an online associate degree or certificate from JCC. They can pursue their educational and career goals while balancing family or work commitments with the convenience and flexibility of online learning.
