Radford University was originally founded in 1910 by Dr. J. Preston McConnell as a women's college as the State Normal and Industrial School for Women. This college was a normal school and offered a two-year degree in rural arts for students. Now serving nearly 10,000 enrolled students, Radford offers comprehensive curriculum for undergraduates in over 100 fields, graduate programs including the M.F.A., M.B.A. and specialized doctoral programs in health-related work field. University offers 153 undergraduate and graduate program options, service learning, research and study abroad opportunities, internships and pre-professional programs. Radford's undergraduate programs emphasize the liberal arts, teacher education and business.

Radford University is organized into six undergraduate colleges: Humanities and Behavioral Sciences, Business and Economics, Education and Human Development, Health and Human Services, Science and Technology, and Visual and Performing Arts. Some fields are designated as schools such as the School of Nursing and School of Social Work and the School of Communication.

Students should complete only the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to apply for financial aid for the academic year. The form is available from high school guidance office, local community college, upon request from the RU Financial Aid Office or can be completed online.
