From it’s the beginnings, with only 190 students and 10 professors, UK's campus now covers more than 716 acres and is home to over 26,000 students and nearly 11,000 employees. UK's diverse student population represents 117 countries, every state in the nation, and every Kentucky court. University of Kentucky students compete successfully for the most prestigious scholarships and awards, such as the Fulbright, Truman, Marshall and Goldwater.
The university is committed to strong public service, reaching out to communities across the Commonwealth, sharing knowledge and making a difference in the towns, cities and lives of all citizens of Kentucky. An example is Health Education through Extension Leadership, an ever-expanding Cooperative Extension Service initiative to enhance extension agents' capacity to deliver research conducted on campus throughout the state.
Online LearningThat students who taking online courses usually do not have to attend face-to-face meetings and off-campus students can save time and money with regard to travel to and from a classroom. Students can communicate with instructors for any possible course meeting needs. The assignments and class participation are conducted "asynchronously," meaning that the students can choose their study times according to their individual schedules.
ProgramsAll students can choose from some 200 majors and degree programs in 17 academic and professional colleges: Agriculture, Arts and Sciences, Business and Economics, Communications and Information Studies, Dentistry, Design, Education, Engineering, Fine Arts, Health Sciences, Law, Libraries, Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy Social Work and Public Health.
ResearchUniversity of Kentucky is working actively to achieve its top-20 research the purpose. The achievement marked the fourth year in a row UK exceeded the $200 million level in sponsored project awards. Research at UK is a dynamic enterprise encompassing both traditional scholarship and emerging technologies.
Campus LifeUniversity of Kentucky includes over 300 student organizations including academic clubs, social groups, Greek organizations, student media, cultural events and leadership activities. Each student organization carries its own mission and helps build leadership through campus and community involvement.More than 50 varsity, club and intramural sports allow students to test their athletic abilities at all levels.
