The University of Maine at Augusta is committed to serving the communities around the area and the community of students, faculty, staff, and alumni that makes the University a truly special place.

Lots of people interested in college have family and work obligations that don’t allow them to take classes on a college campus. UMA has worked with these busy adult learners for many years. It offers them its most popular academic courses and programs close to one's home and sometimes right in one's home.

UMA Distance Learning options include:
- Attending onsite courses through University College at 10 community locations around the state.
- Taking courses via Interactive Television (ITV) at one of the 80 receive sites in Maine.
- Taking online courses via the Internet from your home or office.
- A combination of the above options, e.g., ITV lecture combined with online projects and discussion, or online courses supplemented with videotapes or CDs mailed to the student, or in-person classes supported with online activities and services

UMA offers a broad range of courses using distance education technologies. Students can complete core course requirements for most UMA majors though distance learning options.

Online courses use a combination of teaching methods and instructional technologies which may vary from course to course: DVD lectures, discussion using a computer conference or a telephone conference, private communication using e-mail, research using the library and the World Wide Web, learning activities on the Web, and printed course manuals. Students communicate using e-mail, online discussion boards, and, in some courses, virtual chat.

Financial Aid
To make college studies more affordable, UMA offers a wide variety of financial aid programs. The University offers different types of financial aid: grants or scholarships, low interest loans, work-study, or a combination of grants, loans, and/or work.
